+ VENUS FLY TRAP
Formed in Northampton-UK(famous for Bauhaus and Alan Moore cult comic writer) after parting company with electronic outfit Attrition in the late 1980s.
Early releases came out via French label Danceteria that led to tours of France,Belgium,Germany…European interest has always been strong leading to further albums being released by Azyl(Czech Republic),Spectre(Germany),Soundbuster(Germany)and SPV(Germany/Poland).
There have been many tours taking in France,Belgium,Holland,Germany,Czech Republic,Slovaki
a,Italy,Hungary,Austria,Poland and Finland…
The back catalogue was re-issued with new artwork by Big Blue in 2002… VFT are a hard band to pigeonhole, taking their influences from many sources and amalgamating them into a congealed whole…but try “Bladerunner rock n roll/post-punk meets dark electronic wearing rose tinted shades”
+PAT FISH(aka THE JAZZ BUTCHER)
Preposterous, analytically impermeable ensemble generally dismissed as “indie”. In reality, an enormous squad of crack international restaurant critics.
The band’s initial “career” phase ran from 1983 to 1995, when they retired in protest against Britpop, Chris Evans and their own frustrating inability to unseat the government of John Major. The Cones Hotline: now, there was an initiative and a half.
After a couple of one-off concerts marking the return of the great Max Eider in the late nineties, the band continued to play live in Europe, America and Japan and even made the occasional record. Even though it supposedly didn’t exist.
After Max Eider’s withdrawal from live performance in 2014, the band quickly re-invented itself as the Jazz Butcher Quartet with ace trumpeter Simon Taylor, playing shows in the UK, Spain and France before Fire Records came knocking.
The sudden and shocking demise of Steve Garofalo in 2016 threw things way off track, but the band has now reconstituted as a Quintet with drummer Lee Brooks and keyboard player Nick Bandy.
Fire are undertaking a series of re-releases throughout 2018 and the JBQ will be taking the opportunity to play live as much as possible. A new album of original material is scheduled for the near future
