On the 15th of November, Music in Leicester had the pleasure of seeing the sold-out first-ever show of Idle Suns, supported by Olly E, Steven Faulkner and Reardon Love.

The upstairs of Firebug was fully packed with people excited to see Idle Suns debut gig.

The evening was kicked off by Olly E, an alternative singer-songwriter from Leicestershire, who on top of that is also his own full band.

His performance showed his incredible multi-layered talent. A personal highlight for me was his inclusion of a Linkin Park cover at the end of his performance, it was a fantastic surprise for all the attendants and it was adored by everyone. Olly’s performance was outstanding and I am really looking forward to checking out more of his music.

Next up on the bill we had Hinckley based independent artist, Steven Faulkner who performed a set of songs filled with empowering messages and thoughtful insights into current social issues such as the Climate Crisis which we are facing.

His voice along with his impressive guitar skills and intricate songwriting are definitely a reason to keep an eye out for his future gigs.

Reardon Love who were on directly before the headliners were one of the most interesting acts I have seen in a while.

They brought out not only a unique look and sound but also spoken word intermissions between songs which were definitely fascinating to watch. Musically they may have not been the highlight of my evening but their performance still stood out to me.

Finally, we had the newly re-formed Idle Suns, so newly re-formed that they don’t even have social media yet! Which blew my mind seeing as I was at their sold-out headliner show. They were so incredibly energetic, which in turn electrified the crowd and had them play multiple encores.

It was absolutely crazy to watch at a band’s first gig back. They’re definitely someone in the scene to look out for. Also, make sure to keep an eye out for when they do launch their social media in a few months’ time!
