Glastonbudget at The Shed

The last auditions show for the 2015 Glastonbudget Music Festival with

Revolutionary Summer, Bloodsugar, The River Chickens, The Bombardiers and Four Point Oh.

Public shows to select acts for the Glastonbudget Festival started last year. The auditions had already started when we reported on the show held on 5 September last year. Tonight’s show was however the last in the current season.

The Glastonbudget Festival takes place on 22nd to 24th May.

Opening tonight’s show was Revolutionary Summer. The band from Nuneaton played a set of their own songs. They previously appeared at The Shed on 11th February when they were on a line-up with Reuben Wisner, Lydia Mason, Before The Crash and Flight15 for the Lung Fest, Cystic Fibrosis charity gig.

Indie rock band from Loughborough Bloodsugar had brought a very large contingent of fans with them;  this was, we were told, their first gig in addition to being their audition for the Glastonbudget festival.

The five members of the group included Callum Jones in the lead role. They state on their Facebook Page:  ‘Once together, the band rehearsed intensively and produced a live demo of their track Eye Of The Storm in one take at deadline studios Leicester. The band’s sound incorporates heavy indie bands such as Oasis and Kasabian alongside lighter bands such as The Smiths from Luke’s guitar sound. ‘ Facebook

I knew the lead singer from The River Chickens. Joel Wildgoose established himself as solo singer of some distinction and now he is with this four-piece band from Ashby de la Zouch, home of such music luminaries as The Young Knives.

Also in the band are brothers Aidan Blythe and Owen Blythe who we remembered from the astonishing Bosworth band called Brother, which we reviewed in May 2012. Another member of Brother was Ali Clinton, now a singer, songwriter and band member (his band will be playing at the OBS on 21st March.)

Well, so much for the history; tonight’s performance by The River Chickens provided a very workmanlike delivery of a set of cover songs that included Thin Lizzy’s The Boys Are back in Town (appropriately enough) and Jumping Jack Flash by The Rolling Stones. Entertaining on stage, playing music of a high standard, they really rocked.  A good set of songs delivered with zeal and thrust, they got the audience dancing.

The River Chickens

From Daventry, The Bombardiers were a four-piece blues/rock trio lead by guitarist and singer Barclay Quarton. The band formed in 2012/14 they play covers and original songs. As one media expert commented to me “The lead singer has a good voice.”

I think it would be justifiable to say that the stars of tonight’s show, the headline band was Four Point Oh.

The Leicester hard rock band lists its members as Oli Frost – Drums/Piano/Vox, Becky Woolman- Lead Vocals, Lewis Danes – Guitar, Ryan Humphreys – Bass, Oskie Wright – Guitar/BVox and Lorenzo Morandi – Guitar.  Since 2011 the band has played many festivals and big shows in our local area.

Tonight Four Point Oh played a solidly good set, fired up with plenty of energy and resilience. The drama and atmosphere of a 4.0 gig is something that everyone should see. The band is appearing on 29th March at The Firebug with Black Whiskey and Mammoth.

Congratulations to Jamie Borland who introduced new lighting rigs to The Shed tonight;  it made a very noticeable different to the ambience. Well done that man.
