The Exchange – Olivia Rose Deane

By Keith Jobey

It might have been wet and windy outside as ex-hurricane Gonzalo passed overhead but inside the snug at the Exchange it was warm and friendly.

The reason was because Olivia Rose Deane was launching her debut single Sally. The snug at the Exchange isn’t a big room, hence the name, and it was pretty full as Olivia was introduced. Those who couldn’t find a seat opted to sit on the floor, making it feel very much like it was in a living room rather than a bar and helping to create a relaxed, warm atmosphere.

Swapping between guitar and piano Olivia played a set of pleasant easy-going acoustic songs. Broken Bird standing out amongst the earlier songs, and Muse, B-side of the single, is a catchy number too. The set came to end with a rendition of Sally, the reason for the event. Played on the piano and leading to a well deserved round of applause from the crowd.

Those present received a complimentary CD version of the single but it is also available via the usual download sites. It is released via KLiCtrack Records, a part of KLiC, an artist-led, performing arts collective based at Leicester’s Y Theatre.
