An exciting line-up of bands played at the O2 Academy’s Scholar Bar Bar tonight in a good organised by Andy Wright of Live In Leicester.

The Reckless Youth is a new alt/rock band (it launched on the 8th March 2015.) Some would say it is a ‘super band.’ It was formed with three members of Formal Warning and two members of Vengeance – both of them top Leicester bands. From Formal Warning: Ash Wright (vocals), Leon Harrold (bass) and Kyle Harrold (guitar); from Vengeance: Harry Pentony (guitar) and Kieran Langley (drums.)

The Reckless Youth has created a set of songs that sound neither like Formal Warning or Vengeance; they have brought together and style and sound of their own. Ash Wright still brings to the mic the same powered performance and presence that we saw in Formal Warning. The string players have the same rocket-fuelled stage craft that they had in their previous bands. It’s the kind of sound that could fill Wembley stadium.
Vengeance recently changed their name to Eden Avenue.

Vengeance was a five piece alternative rock band from Broughton Astley, near Leicester. The members of the band were: Rebecca Maurice (vocalist) Kieran Langley on drums, Michael Wright on bass, Harry Pentony on guitar and Will Hayter guitar. They played their first gig at the Shed, in Leicester, and were told they were the youngest band to play there at the time (then they were 15 – 16). They went on the appear at Leicester’s Y Theatre and the O2 Academy where they supported Formal Warning. The band released a thee song EP, in 2012, featuring such tracks as Insomnia, All I Need and Reality. The band told us: “We love playing together and writing songs and playing covers.” [Arts in Leicester magazine]
Vengeance was featured in Rock Pulse, June 25th 2012, they wrote:
‘A band I’ve had the pleasure of seeing a few times of late, the last being on the Saddle Span Stage at this year’s Glastonbudget, where they blew the crowd away with a really honest and professional set they can look back on and be very proud of. For a bunch of youngsters they have a certain swagger and confidence hard to find these days.’

Not My Good Arm

Another new band that also comprises members drawn from other bands – Not My Good Arm comprises Chris ‘drums’ Evans, Pete ‘bass’ Dobson, Tom ‘vox’ Haywood, Geoff ‘trombone’ Davison (Brass Bears, Brassick Bears) and Adam ‘trumpet’ Davison (Brass Bears, Brassick Bears).

The five-piece group comprised Tom Haywood (lead vocals and guitar), trumpet and conga drums, trombone, drums and bass. There is a fair range of ages in this band and a wealth of musical experience.

The band’s style of music is not described on the band’s Facebook page but it is certainly funky, imbued with reggae and ska rhythms and has that impressive ‘big band’ sound. Their music has presence; it is fast-paced, energetic and driven by plenty of stage presence.
They certainly know how to make music, that’s for sure.

Riding The Low

Riding The Low provided the headline set. The band from Burton was a great hit with the audience. Lead singer – Paddy Considine – gave a charismatic and forceful performance backed by vocals from the guitarist. It was rock that had plenty of beats and resonance; the band’s style of music has been called ‘indie/rock/lo-fi/grunge.’ Whatever. It’s blimmin’ good. Their set was so well received that they called called back for an encore.

The members of Riding The Low are Paddy Considine (vocals), Chris Baldwin (guitar), Dan Baker (guitar), Justin Chambers (drums) and Rich Eaton (bass.) They are signed to Clinical Finish Records, their own record label.
An interesting thing about lead singer Paddy Considine, is that he is an award-winning actor and film director as well as being a musician. He has starred in films such as In America, Dead Man’s Shoes, The Cry of the Owl, Le Donk & Scor-zay-zee, The Suspicions of Mr Whicher, Hot Fuzz, and The World’s End.
The band released an EP in 2009, called What Happened To The Get To Know Ya?
