After living their King Gizzard fantasy in Burp and Vomit, Bubblegum Hypnosis comes back to beloved dreamy drowsiness. In the newest single, Beachy Blues, they live up to their name, serving a jazzed-up dose of dope melancholia to fill a love-sized hole.

Beachy Blues mystifies the summer that is yet to happen. Marrying Mac DeMarco with Homeshake at the seaside, they make their own version of sad bastard music. You can enjoy the sunlight, only to realise that the best was to happen and it didn’t. It is melancholic without being melodramatic. All jazzy and groovy. Mixing’s so smart that the song goes in smoother than the first sip of a cold pint on a hot day. It has a bittersweet aftertaste though, especially when lines like ‘now my bed’s so cold and I’m left all alone’ hit.

With all the festivals and out-of-town events cancelled, vibing to summer blues feels just right. There’s a twisted beauty to the heartbreak and Bubblegum Hypnosis managed to capture the nuances and irony of it.

Beachy Blues is all about looking at the sunset through blue-coloured glasses. It doesn’t matter if things suck. It’s chillin’.

Bubblegum Hypnosis are one of the coolest cats on the scene to watch out for, and if you got hooked up on their Beachy Blues, check out rest of their stuff on social media and streaming platforms.
