Leicester band Last Edition

Fresh from playing the headline slot at this years Boardie Takeover (Doghouse Stage) at the  Download Festival, Last Edition are ready to take
their infectious ska and punk rock around the UK once again. Last Edition are the result of what happens when four friends come together and make infectiously happy music – the rest just falls into place.

“Inspired by the likes of Less Than Jake, Reel Big Fish and Madness, they pulled infectious tune after infectious tune out of the hat.” – Milly Youngman & Richard Warrell / Download Festival 2014.

“Last Edition proved a perfect choice to close the evening and pump up the excitement for the three days of music ahead.” – Milly Youngman & Richard Warrell / Download Festival 2014.

“Cool, Brassy, Sing-a-long – 2 tone & ska punk vibes.” – Do The Dog Skazine.

“Likeable, sax-infused stomps!” – Kerrang!

About Last Edition

Since their formation in 2009, Last Edition have upheld and promoted the same, simple message – ‘whatever you’ve been up to, however you feel, put on your dancing shoes and leave your worries at the door’.

Dubbed Leicester’s very own “Ska Punk Party Brigade”, they manage to find new fans and make new friends wherever they go; spreading the good vibes, catchy riffs and “sax-infused stomps” (-Kerrang) to venues across the country.

Known for their energetic live performances, they’ve rocked out with bands such as Bad Manners, The King Blues, Suburban Legends, Sonic Boom 6, [Spunge], Random Hand, The Skints & Captain Accident, to name but a few.

They come armed with their latest release, “Pass it Down” – the ferociously catchy 3-track EP, and have been featured on such compilation albums as Ska Mutiny Records’ “Buried Treasure” – effectively a ‘ones to watch’ for the Ska world. Each song to this date has received airplay, most notably: “No Pressure” receiving great comments on BBC Radio’s ‘The Beat’.

2014 has been a busy year for the band so far; playing numerous festivals including a headline spot at Download Festival’s Boardie Takeover event, supporting Californian ska legends Suburban Legends on their Midlands tour dates, as well as embarking upon their 3rd consecutive summer tour. All this has seen their ever-growing fan-base gain yet more supporters, and at an exponential rate. Meanwhile, the band are primed for their next studio release, tentatively dated late 2014.

Last Edition who opened up with a good Halloween tune, a brilliant ska cover of Ghostbusters. Later the bassist randomly playing the theme song to king of the hill must to his band member’s confusion. After playing more of their songs they unleash their secret weapon, a cover of Sugar Hill Gang’s Apache with the Last Edition Famous dance. Also the set continued the heat in the Musician slowly got to the trumpet player Azz who started the set with a full suit on but ended in trousers and his shirt completely undone, what a nice little strip tease. More Banter was had between their amazing set list of songs to get everyone in the mood. [Arts in Leicester magazine]

Saturday 23rd January at The Shed

I loved the big brassy sounds and infectious rhythms that back Matt, lead singer, of Last Edition. A band with an energetic stage presence, they brought the music alive and pulled the crowd into the action. Ska used to be popular in Leicester, reaching its hey day during the era of Freefall Felix, when there where large audiences for it and a lot of skanking down at the front. Although there are still a small number of excellent ska bands around, this particular genre has waned, particularly as the popularity of indie pop has increased. Not that we hear traditional ska; these bands borrow the catchy rhythms from ska without tributing it and aficionados of the style would not be too impressed. But Last Edition’s stuff is nevertheless enjoyable, being full of dynamic beats and breaks and the whole band looked like they were have a really great time on the stage. Enjoyable and well presented, their set kept the night moving. [Arts in Leicester magazine]
