It’s not often that a French band comes to Leicester; so when I heard about The 1969 Club at The shed,  I jumped in my shoes, grabbed my camera, and popped up to hear them live. This trio rocks (Marie: bass/lead vocals, Theo: drum and choirs, Adrien: guitar and vocals) and was formed in Brittany five years ago. After several dates in France – including the famous festivals Les vieilles charrues and Les Transmusicales de Rennes – they decided to make their first UK Tour.

Despite France being famous for a certain number of things (I can hear some of you saying “wine and cheese”), it’s unfortunately not for the rock music. But I have to say this band was surprisingly good. The sexy voice of the singer fits perfectly with this rough rock, which reminds me The White Stripes sometimes.

The bass guitar played with a hint of distortion, the drum switching between a bright (crash cymbals) and a matt sound (tom-tom), the fuzzy guitar alternating efficient riffs and atmospheric melodies.  I think the public had genuinely appreciated the show, and me.
