{"id":19624,"date":"2019-08-20T17:05:17","date_gmt":"2019-08-20T16:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.musicinleicester.co.uk\/index.php\/?p=19624"},"modified":"2019-08-19T14:12:05","modified_gmt":"2019-08-19T13:12:05","slug":"single-review-heart-sauce-i-stopped-trying","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.musicinleicester.co.uk\/index.php\/single-review-heart-sauce-i-stopped-trying\/","title":{"rendered":"Single review &#8211; Heart Sauce, I Stopped Trying"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div>\n<p>If surgeries on the broken hearts of beaten lovers were a thing, <em>I Stopped Trying<\/em> on full volume would be blasting from every operating theatre, leaving no false hope as the rate of survival is extremely low.<\/p>\n<p>Leicester based <strong>Heart Sauce<\/strong> are finally emerging from recording studios and local music venues to serve us some of their alt post-pop\/indie groove. Ellis Turner, Euan Fisher, Dan Peel and Jack Dearden put together an avant-garde sound that\u2019s bursting with a kind of jolly cynical melancholy almost The Growlers like but with an extra ambiguously dreamy dimension. As bittersweet as we like.<\/p>\n<p>Even though Ellis\u2019s vocal blends in with a mellow melody, it\u2019s not bland, but channels all the despair and disappointment there is to it. For contrast, the instrumental, every so often, shines through the lyrical gloomy aura with bright notes and cheeky riffs in perfect harmony.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018You don\u2019t even control it, so I stopped trying&#8217; the first lyrics go along to the playful indie beats as they were to overturn the sadness rooted in the core of the track. It\u2019s a love letter from someone who\u2019s done waiting, done fighting. Tearful praise of the golden past which the comeback is as questionable as the other half\u2019s devotion. It\u2019s the battle of romance against the reason. The question \u2018How can you go back from this now?\u2019 leaves little hope.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the era of hopeless romantics is over.
