Local singer-songwriter\u00a0Daz<\/span>\u00a0Lynch<\/a> has clearly found his mojo. Ahead of an album launch, he\u2019s releasing a series of tunes which will cement him firmly in place as a stalwart of our local indie music scene.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n
Promise Land<\/em> is the first of the series \u2014 in fact, it\u2019s Daz<\/span>\u2019s first ever, a debut single which sounds anything but, such is the confidence it exudes.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The song (also featuring Nile Barrow who contributes warm harmonies) opens with dramatic tension, created a brooding bassline and strings;\u00a0Daz<\/span>\u00a0could have jumped straight in but chose that gentle build instead, allowing a chord sequence to be established and announce his presence in the music world.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Once\u00a0Daz<\/span>\u00a0does begin to sing, we feel his Britpop influences immediately, with that sweeping 90s vocal style pushed unmissably to the front of the mix. The mix of acoustic and electric guitars and the overall unhurried feel, across more than 5 minutes, embed\u00a0Daz<\/span>\u2019s style further. But this isn\u2019t merely a swaggering indie-rock copy;\u00a0Daz<\/span>\u00a0stamps his own name clearly on the tune, allowing his own (recognisably local) vocal inflections to shine through.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a nice electric guitar solo at the centre of the song, where the other instrumentation steps back to allow the strident notes to escalate. From there, we\u2019re led down a gently winding path to the ultimate goal of the song.<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n
\u201cSo come on take my hand, I\u2019ll take you to the promise land\u2026we\u2019ll be free now\u201d<\/i>,\u00a0Daz<\/span>\u00a0and Nile sing, and later \u2014 with a sense of hopeful discovery \u2014 \u201cIn the bright light\u2026\u201d<\/div>\n

Promise Land<\/em> not only hints at an exciting body of work to come, but tells us it\u2019s already here \u2014 Daz<\/span> has made his mark with this, his debut single.<\/div>\n
