It seems like ages since I last was at The Soundhouse<\/a> for a gig. Despite the wind and rain of storm Claudia, ravaging the streets of Leicester, we made it to the venue. Have you ever been to a gig to see a lineup of bands you have never heard of and not seen before? I do it quite a lot. I think of it as being a \u2018voyage of discovery.\u2019 Yes, it was that.<\/p>\n

Opening the show, a singer from Leicester, with a guitar player. His act name was Rec\u00f8de<\/a><\/strong>. What he did on stage was familiar enough and the audience warmed to it. I found him on Facebook here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A teenager with a musical ability that scored points and ticked a lot of boxes. He was once on BBC Introducing where he was interviewed by Dean Jackson (click here<\/a> for the interview), no less. He got into music, he said, when involved with Soft Touch Arts; so, an interesting story there.<\/p>\n

He writes his own material. To cut a long story short, I think he\u2019s a musician I would want to see again and follow. He did some of his own songs and some covers. Good vocals and entertaining songs.<\/p>\n

My musical tastes were laid down during the great golden age of indie, here in Leicester. Today, the live music scene has moved on. Not me, I\u2019m still stuck in the past. It was interesting, therefore, to see what young people like these days. The bands tonight gave me some clues.<\/p>\n

Special Guests – Mercy Falls<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 a nu-metal band from Northampton with lead singer Sienna Pozutto. Plenty of energy flowed from the stage. Songs that were loud and powerful. It was alternative metal, I think. That really got things going. I stood there thinking, \u201cAh! So this is what young people like these days.\u201d Well, strangely enough, I liked it too. But then there were bands from years ago that I heard for the very first time and liked. They made music, and I enjoyed it!<\/p>\n

Mercy Falls<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Nobody\u2019s Secret<\/a><\/strong>, a Leicester five-piece band. The band has a debut EP called Serpent. <\/em>There\u2019s not a great deal I can tell about this band other than they played a set of very likeable tunes. It looked to me that most people were there to support this act. The lead singer has a powerful voice, which she used to good effect, backed by musicians with plenty of talent. This band has a following, and I can well understand why.<\/p>\n
