That Was 2014<\/h1>\n

The year has been good for music. 2014 was a bumper year for bands, singers, rappers and music artists of all kinds. In this article our Editor – Trevor Locke – reviews the gigs, shows and festivals that stood our for him in 2014 including those covered by other writers working for this magazine.<\/p>\n

This review highlights the bands, singers and artists who made the year what is was, in our view.<\/p>\n

December<\/strong><\/p>\n

27th The Shed with Goldstein and Casino Empire<\/a>.<\/p>\n

20th Resin<\/strong> did their annual gig at The Firebug, possibly their last as various members go their separate ways. On stage with them tonight were Martyr de Mona<\/strong> from Stourbidge, Leicester band Temple of Lies<\/strong> and from London Slam Cartel<\/strong>. 19th Midnight Wire<\/strong> attracted a sell out crowd at Y Theatre. On stage with them were Casino Empire<\/strong> and Stop That Train<\/strong>. Read our review of the night<\/a>.<\/p>\n

18th Velocity play at the Rainbows Charity gig at The Shed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

13th 8 Miles High<\/strong> and Beneath The Lights<\/strong> were at the Soundhouse.<\/p>\n

12th Casino Empire headlined the show at The Cookie Jar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

11th Young Bands performing at The Shed’s showcase gig were extremely good including Before The Crash<\/strong>, Mid City<\/strong> and Flight 15<\/strong>. Midnight Wire<\/strong> played as a guest slot at the end of the show.<\/p>\n

5th We The Brave<\/strong>, from Leicester, played at the Glastonbudget Festival auditions show.<\/p>\n

5th – Aaron Stratton<\/strong> did a good performance at the Musician.<\/p>\n

28th –\u00a0 Part of The Problem<\/strong>, Rumjig, Ashmore at Pi Bar<\/a>.<\/p>\n

23rd – Tribal Riot<\/strong> at the Soundhouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n

20th – Nile Delta Buskers<\/strong> at The Musician<\/a>.<\/p>\n

11th – Siobhan Mazzei<\/strong> played at The Shed.<\/p>\n

7th – Alligatr<\/strong> played at the Shed.<\/p>\n

5th – Young Bands Showcase at The Shed.<\/p>\n

10th – Cabin Boy Jumped Ship<\/strong> were at The Soundhouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n

4th – Oxjam and the annual Oxjam Leicester Takeover<\/a>.<\/p>\n

September<\/strong><\/p>\n

24th and 24th – Two Young Bands Showcase<\/strong> gigs back to back at The shed brought an excellent line-up of bands and singers to the stage.<\/p>\n

22nd – The Turkey Cafe<\/strong> was the venue of choice for me tonight; the new open-mic night was a particularly enjoyable experience.<\/p>\n

20th – SavFest at the Octogon in Market Harborough saw a smashing line-up of bands and artists, including Jonezy<\/strong> and Captain Horizon<\/strong> from Birmingham.<\/a><\/p>\n

19th – 8 Miles High<\/strong>, Formal Warning<\/strong> and Violet Cities<\/strong> played at The Shed.<\/p>\n

6th – Casino Empire<\/strong> at the Cookie Jar with a strong supporting line-up that included Albion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

5th – I Surrender<\/strong> did an astonishingly good performance for the Glastonbudget Auditions. Their set at the 2014 Glastonbudget Festival was quite amazing, given they are young band.<\/p>\n

4th – The Bench That Rocked at The Shed.<\/p>\n

August<\/strong><\/p>\n

A big month for Festivals and Kasabian on Victoria Park.<\/p>\n

30th – Leicester Pride<\/strong> brought a wealth of talent to its all-day live music stage on Victoria Park.<\/p>\n

29th – Murmur<\/strong> (now called Mid City), Casino Empire<\/strong> and Ash Mammal<\/strong> were on at The Soundhouse.<\/p>\n

24th – The City Festival’s mainstage on Humberstone Gate saw many good acts performing.<\/p>\n

23rd – The Kaleidoscope Festival took place in the city centre.<\/p>\n

16th – Stop That Train<\/strong> headlined a show at The Cookie Jar.<\/p>\n

8th – Neon Sarcastic<\/strong> was at The Shed. One of Leicester’s longest-running bands, they always put on a really good show.<\/p>\n

3rd – Brush<\/strong> held its cententary in Loughborough and the two music stages brought us a wealth of bands and artists.<\/p>\n

25th – 26th – Leicester Music Festival<\/strong> took place at the Tigers rugby ground<\/a>.<\/p>\n

22nd – Raghu Dixit<\/strong> the Indian music legend returns to Leicester<\/a>.<\/p>\n

19th – Last Edition<\/strong> played at the Leicester O2 Academy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

11th – Ska band Sonic Boom Six<\/strong> played another stomping show at The Soundhouse<\/a>.<\/p>\n

5th – 8 Miles High<\/strong>, Deep Red Thread<\/strong> and The World Can Wait<\/strong> at The Soundhouse.<\/p>\n
