at the Rainbows gig<\/h2>\n

The Shed. A gig in support of Rainbows charity, organised by LC Promotions\u00a0 in association with Leanne Boat & Millie Potter.<\/p>\n

On the line-up were Castle Hill, Velocity, Stating The Obvious and The World Can Wait.<\/p>\n

The show was opened by the two singers of Castle Hill<\/strong><\/a> – Reece Pickett and Jack Birtwistle. \u00a0They played some cover songs and some of their own.<\/p>\n

An unusual feature of this show was that Leicester band Velocity<\/strong><\/a> played two sets. The hard rock and blues four-piece featured the impressively good vocals of the band’s lead singer, backed by backing vocals from other members of the group – including their singing drummer! With covers by Ozzy Osbourne, Queen and others, their set had an immediate impact. They rocked! All round, they were a pretty good act, I would say. The band put on an impressive performance that was very enjoyable.<\/p>\n

From the very first bars of their very first song, Stating The Obvious<\/strong><\/a> made an immediate impact. A band with two good front singers and plenty of vocal layering, they started with a really good song, Greenday’s American Idiot<\/em>. Once they had started they kept the momentum going and went on to cover a number of hit songs. Good playing, engaging delivery, appealing music – they hit the nail right on the head.<\/p>\n

The next band is one that we have followed closely and with some enthusiasm over the course of this year. The World Can Wait<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0has featured in this magazine many times. Over the course of this year, they have grown and developed and are always doing something different. They come out with new songs at almost every gig they do. Musically, they continually fresh and exciting; tonight being no less rewarding than any of their recent performances. One of their songs lasted for more than five minutes and I can tell you – it was magnificent. They have captured the essence of rock music, producing songs that are heavily powered with scintillating sounds. This year has seen the emergence of a number of really good new bands – 8Miles High, Casino Empire, Beneath the Lights, Flight 15 … and TWCW is up there with the best of them. They have become an outstandingly good band. \u00a0Tonight there was a magic in their set that set them apart in many ways and the performance given by lead singer Sully Archer had real star quality.<\/p>\n

Velocity<\/strong> came back to the stage to give the show a fittingly rocking finale. The band’s second slot worked really well. They delivered some top-class covers and their performance was sensational. They had the talent to bring some iconic songs to life. \u00a0Everyone in the band played with palpable passion. Whether playing cover songs or their own original music, Velocity showed us tonight what a really good band they are.<\/p>\n

It was terrifically good night at The Shed and the event raised \u00a3150 for Rainbows Charity, Jamie Borland told us.<\/p>\n
