Leics Music More Music Live Stream<\/em> from The Soundhouse<\/h2>\n

A few weeks back there was a surprising announcement in my facebook feed. Local singer\/songwriter Courtney Askey<\/strong> informed us she’d been signed to Blizzard Records.<\/p>\n

When I say surprising I don’t mean that I couldn’t believe any record company would ever sign Courtney, I mean I was pleasantly surprised that a Leicester artist had been picked out. And picked out she was. She won the deal after spotting a call from the record company for unsigned singers\/bands to apply. Off went the reply and the rest, as they say, is history. It was pleasing to see that a record company in Kent should pick her out to sign from hundreds of applicants; I’ve always thought her songs were good and that she offered something a little different from others. Blizzard records say they were attracted by the purity and honesty of her voice and the lo-fi stripped back appeal of her songs, and that she was a favourite right from the start. So I was pleased to be invited by Courtney to the Soundhouse for an intimate live stream gig she was doing with Leics More Music. Handily it became a celebration of her signing so we got cake too!<\/p>\n

Leics Music More Music’s live stream is usually performed behind closed doors, but as time progresses they are starting to do some in front of a small invited audience. The first was tried with Joe Doyle and now we have this one featuring Courtney Askey. The audience is small, but it fills out the green room at the Soundhouse from where the broadcast is taking place.<\/p>\n

The gig took the format of previous streams, a mixture of interview and songs. The interviewer Trevor Cobbe keeping the questions coming and the relaxed chat flowing, the interviewee Courtney obligingly answering questions and playing songs. Six songs in total, a mixture of old and new, all delivered in her intimate style. Closing with Back To The City<\/em>, the song ended in a barrage of party poppers and squirty string from the small gathering.<\/p>\n

Courtney is obviously very happy about the deal with Blizzard Records. She’ll be off to their recording studios soon and hopefully we’ll hear the results by the end of the year when the EP is due to be released. That’s a release I’m certainly looking forward to.<\/p>\n
