Meanwhile singer and rhythm guitarist Phil Stiles, having spent a year uncertain of whether he would play again due to a vocal injury, has honed his song-writing skills to a ferocious point; from the blistering \u2018daylight fades\u2019 with its arcing feedback and vocal harmonies, to the epic progressive rock of the title track, not a moment is wasted.<\/p>\n<p>Written as a cohesive piece, the EP deals with themes of social alienation as people retreat into their \u2018Gilded Prisons\u2019 (as Phil eloquently describes it on <em>daylight fades<\/em>), something captured in bassist Jola\u2019s heavily stylized artwork, and the record flows beautifully from it\u2019s aggressive and potent opener, through the doom-laden \u2018<em>goodbye to all that<\/em>\u2019, to the cautiously hopeful title track.<\/p>\n<p>The final piece of the puzzle is Richard Awdry\u2019s understated backing vocals and carefully plotted solos, both of which elevate the music to a new level.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018<em>Closed to the Light<\/em>\u2019 is the culmination of a year\u2019s hard work from <strong>Final Coil<\/strong>, with the band playing a number of ferocious live gigs across the Midlands, including a slot at Glastonbudget as well as support slots with Italian symphonic metal band <strong>Over<\/strong> and Coventry\u2019s own <strong>Tower of Crows<\/strong>, and the release of this EP is set to propel the band of the next level of their career.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7657\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7657\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-7657\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.musicinleicester.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Final-Coil-600x400.jpg?resize=600%2C400\" alt=\"Final Coil at Duffys Bar.
