HQ Recording Studios

24th May 2013, contributed by HQ staff

July 2012 saw the opening of HQ, a multi functioning creative hub based in Leicester City Centre. Home to recording studios, gallery space, artist studios and a graffiti supplies shop, HQ is fast becoming very important to grassroots artistic culture in Leicester. Sofa space means artists and musicians can drop in, chill out and plan creative projects together.

Unlike some studios, HQ recording has several engineers on hand specializing in select genres rather than a single engineer stretching his or her knowledge trying to cover unfamiliar styles. Some of the music genres the experienced team of HQ engineers specialize in include electronic and hip-hop.

The rooms at HQ recording have been acoustically designed for optimum sound quality and recording output. These include a dry vocal booth/amp room, separate drum booth, a live room and access to 350 capacity venue for larger projects and/or video-shoots.

HQGallery gives artists the opportunity to promote and sell their work. HQ has featured a wide spectrum of artists who work in a variety of medias. HQ is very proud to engage people who are not familiar with art in it’s traditional environments. Photography, street art, fine art, sculpture and illustration have all featured on their walls. HQGallery launch nights are always interesting and lively giving those with an interest in the creative industries an opportunity to meet up and appreciate artistic culture.

The shop, GraffHQ is situated on the ground floor in the gallery space. Alongside stocking a huge selection of spray paints and drawing markers GraffHQ stocks a variety of traditional artist materials. T-shirts created by local artists are also on sale giving further opportunities for local creatives. The staff offer free advice in aerosol art techniques and are approachable to artists of all levels.

HQMedia is run by Jamie Tarbert, better known as Chaser. Chaser has produced professional music videos for a wide variety of artists.  In his spare time he produces a Leicester based media channel showcasing local artists in and around the Leicestershire region called #JUSDOINME.TV. He has a genuine grassroots interest in supporting and promoting Leicester music culture. He is an experienced and professional sound engineer and as such can also take studio bookings for your sound recording requirements.
